high wycombe sign.jpgHigh Wycombe is a town steeped in history. With plenty of surrounding countryside, large estates and places of interest, you’ll never run out of things to do!

It is also the largest town in Buckinghamshire, meaning that there’s stuff not just for grown-ups but for the whole family to enjoy.

So, if you’re looking for some historical places to visit or for a good time at the local cinema, there’s something to keep you occupied no matter what your tastes.

Below, we’ve assembled a list of the top things to do in High Wycombe before you come and visit us at The Works.

1) Wycombe Rye Lido

Wycombe Rye Lido is High Wycombe’s gloriously refreshing answer to keeping cool on a hot day. But it’s by no means off-limits during the winter!

Complete with a gym, spa and many other sports facilities, this leisure centre’s main feature is, without a doubt, its outdoor swimming pools.

The Lido, in particular, is always a favourite. Measuring 33m by 12.5m, it’s a heated pool designed to help metabolism and aid sleep.

It’s also lots of fun to splash around in! Though best enjoyed during the warmer months, Wycombe Rye Lido is also open during the winter for those brave enough to take a dip.

This attraction is best enjoyed with friends and/or family and provides endless entertainment for hours at a time.

2) Rush Trampoline Park

Keep your kids active by bouncing around this excellent trampoline park, complete with its own foam pit and climbing frames.

This facility has plenty of other things aside from trampolines, though. Not only can you bounce around endlessly, but you can also play dodgeball, basketball, take part on the battle beam, swing on the trapeze, and even rush through an assault course.

Easy to say, this place is for anyone looking for a bit of rough and tumble, and it isn’t just for kids! Adults can also have their share of fun; a great excuse for a corporate event.

The only thing to be wary of is the number of rules that you need to abide by in order to take part at Rush. Otherwise, it’s a big hit for all the family.

3) Hellfire Caves

Those looking for a calmer, more historical place to visit will find plenty of that when it comes to the Hellfire Caves.

A series of manmade tunnels that stretch for up to a quarter of a mile long, the site is most famous for being the secluded meeting place of the infamous Hellfire Club.

Long before that, however, the site has been an open-cast quarry on the side of the hill, which was used for mining chalk.

It’s also supposed to be slightly haunted. The organisers run paranormal investigations which are both an informative and spooky night out.

4) Wycombe Wanderers F. C.

If you’re a massive footie fan, the local football club and the stadium are definitely worth a visit.

Nicknamed the “Chairboys”, the Wycombe Wanderers resisted becoming a professional team for the longest time until amateur football was abolished in 1974.

Since turning pro, the Wanderers have reached as high as League One (third tier), where it currently plays in the 2018-19 season.

Sports fans with children can plan an outing here and even play some football themselves. It is, we’re proud to say, the only football club in the country awarded the Family Excellence status.

If you’re lucky enough to be in town when a match is happening, be sure to book seats for it as it would definitely be worth a watch.

5) Wycombe Swan Theatre

The Swan Theatre is High Wycombe’s top entertainment venue set in the heart of town. From
pantomimes to comedy acts, there’s always something going on.

It makes for not only a great place to see a live show but a great venue too. With the main theatre with two extra halls, there are countless reasons to book.

Open Monday to Saturday from 10 to 8, be sure to bring the whole family as, whether you want to watch Cinderella on Ice or The Snowman with a live orchestra, you cannot beat a live show.
